Integrated Digital Media Institute at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn
The Integrated Digital Media Institute has been established to set up and support creative partnerships:
- between our students and faculty;
- between Polytechnic University and leading individuals, organizations, and enterprises in electronic media;
- between the most advanced thinkers and practitioners in the Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, and Communications Technology.
Why "Integrated"?
Because we realize that human power, wisdom, and feeling all need to develop in balance, but also in relation to one another. We recognize that a lot of wise decisions are going to have to get made, and effective work is going to have to get done, in the next couple of generations. This can only come from people whose technical expertise is integrated with an understanding of their place in history, and in the world.
Because we know that it's possible for the same person to be creative and thoughtful and an expert at what they do. In fact, we think these qualities depend on each other.
Because we have seen what happens when people try to do the right thing with the wrong tools, and vice-versa; as digital communications technologies have become more powerful and more pervasive, it's become more and more important that the people using them know what they are dealing with, and what they are doing.
